Meet the team: Volunteer Dawn

Hello Dawn! So tell us, what made you decide to volunteer at Camrose and how did you hear about us?

When my daughter went to university I was looking for a charity to volunteer my time to and Camrose came up on Facebook. I had a look on their web site and applied straight away.

Can you tell us a bit about your day job?

Four days a week I work in a project based role for Thames Water in Reading.

What roles have you undertaken at Camrose?

So many roles, signing people in, making hot drinks, getting shower packs, sitting with people and listening, on occasions cooking lunch.

What has been the most enjoyable part of your volunteering experience so far? Have there been any challenges?

Definitely the people, clients, volunteers, staff and the feeling of giving something back to the community. Volunteers and staff are also there for us if we need to chat.

Only challenge was cooking for so many people and not being very good on portion sizes but I’m great at it now 😊

Have you picked up any new skills?

A couple of new skills, learning to listen to people and be compassionate when necessary and cooking for a large number of people. I’m sure there will be more new skill in the future that I will pick up.

If you had to sum up Camrose in three words what would you say?

  • Supportive
  • Welcoming
  • Enjoyable
