So tell us, what made you decide to volunteer at Camrose and how did you hear about us?
I had been following Camrose on Facebook for a while. Once day Mike (Chair of trusteees) posted that he needed some help with the Facebook page. My role at my children’s PTA had come to an end so I offered to help.
Can you tell us a bit about your day job?
I work in marketing for a software company.
What roles have you undertaken at Camrose?
As well as the Facebook page, I now work as a marketing volunteer for Camrose. So I look after the social media sites, keep the website up to date, write the supporter emails and look after the supporter data base. I also write the press releases and send them to the local press. I’m also a Trustee which involves attending meetings every two months, and looking after the interests of Camrose as a charity.
What has been the most enjoyable part of your volunteering experience so far? Have there been any challenges?
I have really enjoyed meeting and working with the team and learning about all the ways they help local vulnerable people – it’s really amazing. I love helping to spread the word about everything they do, and it’s brilliant to be involved with plans to make the charity even bigger and better than it already is. Challenges: there’s loads to do but not enough time to do it all as a volunteer.
Have you picked up any new skills?
I’m learning lots about how charities work! I’ve learned all about charity CRM systems too. Did lots of research, recommended one and set it up, to help the team manage all their supporter data.
If you had to sum up Camrose in three words what would you say?
- Inspiring
- Empathic
- Growing
